Achieve TMS East, with locations in Northampton, Springfield, and Amherst, is the first in Western Massachusetts to offer Brainsway’s Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) -launching a new era in the treatment of depression. Major Depression – a condition characterized by feelings of deep sadness and loss of interest in life – is one of the most common psychiatric disorders in the United States. It affects over 15 million adults overall and approximately 1 out of 6 people in the U.S. will suffer a major depressive episode in their lifetime.
Brainsway’s Deep TMS, a safe, non-invasive treatment, is based on patents filed by the National Institute of Heatlh and has been FDA cleared since 2008. Brainsway’s Deep TMS has been tested in over 60 clinical studies in leading institutions worldwide. Deep TMS treatment stimulates the brain region responsible for depression and brings significant improvement to patients. The brief 30 minute outpatient treatments allow for little to no disruption in a patient’s daily activity. Immediately after treatment, patients are able to drive home and return to their daily routine, including work commitments. Additionally, 75% of Brainsway Deep TMS patients have had positive response rates following a 6 week period of treatment.
Dr. John Zebrun, psychiatrist and Dr. Brian Smith, neurologist, look forward to providing dTMS to patients in both office locations. “At Achieve TMS East, our goal is to improve the lives of our patients through the use of the most advanced, scientifically proven technology” states Dr. Smith. Marjorie Pierce, Director of Operations, with 18 years of experience in the mental health and substance abuse field adds that “the mission of our dedicated professional team is to provide quality care, in collaboration with community providers, and give hope to patients.”
